Questions
Short answers to what people ask before installing.
Is Multilify really free?
Yes. Multilify is free and open source under the GPL v2 or later. There are no paid tiers and no upsells, and there is no plan to add either.
Does it call any external services?
No. Your translations live on your own server. There are no third-party API calls, which keeps the site fast and your privacy policy short.
Will it slow down my site?
The slug lookup is object-cached and indexed, and the cache is dropped when a slug changes, so the multilingual layer costs one cached query per page.
Which editors are supported?
Gutenberg and the Classic Editor work out of the box, with the translation panels inside the editor you already use. Builders that render from their own stored data, such as Elementor, bypass the content filter, so their layouts are not translated.
What are the requirements?
WordPress 5.8 or newer and PHP 7.4 or newer. No other plugin is required.
Can I move over from WPML or Polylang?
Yes, by hand or with a script. There is no importer, and the switching page says plainly what carries over and what does not.
